St-Geniez-d’Olt in the Lot Valley
Saint-Geniez-d’Olt: exceptional architecture, lively and bordered by the River Lot. For millennia, man and nature have shaped the history of this region. It is also at the centre of an exceptional terroir. Between Aubrac and Causse, in the heart of the Lot Valley, Saint Geniez d’Olt, ‘the pearl of Rouergue’, will surprise you. Classified as a “Green Holiday Resort“, this village of 2,000 inhabitants extends along the 2 banks of the Lot at an altitude of 400m.
The Marmotel campsite is located 500m from the centre of this “little corner of France“. You can get to it on foot (10 min) along the river Lot.
Enjoy all the amenities close to the campsite: visit this city of arts and leisure: the 14th-century cloister, exhibition gallery, cinema, marked trails, summer entertainment, supermarket, 40 shops and markets with local producers, restaurants, a bar, and fishing in rivers, the lake and streams.
Moving forward! At the St-Geniez-d’Olt Tourist Office, you will find detailed maps offering walking tours, bike tours, and also a schedule of activities every week with guided tours, the opportunity to discover farms, as well as nightlife and sports excursions. A little Lozerian Venice
La Canourgue
Just 30 minutes away from the Marmotel Campsite, this amazing village is also called the “Little Lozerian Venice”. You will fall in love with this village, with its medieval streets and characterful canals. The village offers magnificent timber-framed or renaissance houses and a very beautiful Romanesque chapel.
It is very popular with visitors in summer, and many entertainment and cultural events are held there. It is a must-see. Once at La Canourgue, make a stop at the nearby village of Banassac-Canilhac. It is, in fact, the meeting of two ancestral villages whose foundations date back to Roman times. From the ruined castle of Banassac, you will discover a panoramic view.
Chanac
Located 45 minutes from the Marmotel campsite, discover the village of Chanac and its tower, which overlooks the Lot Valley. This village is very lively and offers many festive activities all year round. Starting from the village, you will also find many hiking trails for all levels.
Lot Valley in Aveyron
Sainte Eulalie d’Olt
Located close to the Marmotel campsite, you can discover the villages of the Lot Valley in Aveyron. A beautifully preserved artistic village and medieval town, Sainte Eulalie d’Olt is worth a visit during your camping holidays. Let yourself get lost in its charming streets, always in bloom, overlooked by astonishing, perfectly-preserved medieval facades. Don’t miss its 10th-century church, which contains a fragment of Christ’s crown of thorns.
Every second Sunday in July, the procession of the Holy Thorn is held. The whole village participates in Christ’s calvary in period clothes. The 15th-century castle will be your second stop in this beautiful village.
The most beautiful villages in France
Estaing
Labelled one of the “Most beautiful villages in France”, the village of Estaing, on the road to Santiago de Compostela, is certainly worth a visit during your camping holidays. Visitors must experience the charm of this particularly well-preserved medieval city.
The Estaing castle, classified as a historical monument, is one of the best-known and most visited castles in Aveyron. On the first Sunday in July, the whole village celebrates Saint Fleuret and dresses in medieval clothing to pay tribute to him. In September, the Medieval Festival is held: a gigantic festival during which the village takes a leap back in time to the sound of minstrels and troubadours.

Aubrac plateau

Larzac plateau and its Templar cities

Millau Viaduct

Bozouls
The village that has been established over the centuries around the canyon. It is a natural curiosity, located in the heart of Causse Comtal in Aveyron, with its geological (“Trou de Bozouls”) and natural heritage.
